The sixth miracle of the cross:
THE WONDER OF RECONCILIATION
The Crucifixion
Jesus Fulfilled His own Words on the Cross
Why Jesus’ Legs were not Broken
We cannot make Reconciliation Take Place
The Divine Exchange
Through the Blood of Jesus You are Reconciled with God the Father
Through the Blood of Jesus You are Reconciled with God the Father
The Hebrew word for ‘reconciliation’ means that you offer something as a replacement to someone whom you owe, in order to cancel the debt. You and I were not able to fix the broken relationship with God ourselves. Because God loved us He took the initiative to reconcile us to Himself. He sent His Son to restore the relationship between us and Him. That Jesus was made sin, was the price which had to be paid in order to free us from the power of sin and death. This exchange took place at the Cross. This was not something that happened without God, but it was desired by Him:
“… God has shown us how much He loves us – it was while we were still sinners that Christ died for us! By His blood we are now put right with God; how much more, then, will we be saved by Him from God’s anger! We were God’s enemies, but He made us His friends through the death of His Son. Now that we are God’s friends, how much more will we be saved by Christ’s life! But that is not all; we rejoice because of what God has done through our Lord Jesus Christ, who has now made us God’s friends’75.
Father in heaven,
Thank you for the wonder of reconciliation. I thank you that Jesus took the animosity and the judgement upon Himself, so that I may come to you freely and my call myself your child. Help me to understand what Jesus endured for me, so that I may never become indifferent or weak.
Amen.
