Your Record Nailed to the Cross

Jesus not only wiped away all your sins with His blood, He also wiped away all accusations. These are two separate things. Your sins are not hanging on the Cross. Your sins have been taken away from you, wiped away by the blood of the Lamb. It is not your sins that have been nailed to the Cross, but the evidence brought against you. Your criminal record which declared you guilty and condemned you:

‘You were at one time spiritually dead because of your sins and because you were Gentiles without the Law. But God has now brought you to life with Christ. God forgave us all our sins; He cancelled the unfavourable record of our debts with its binding rules and did away with it completely by nailing it to the cross. And on that cross Christ freed Himself from the power of the spiritual rulers and authorities; He made a public spectacle of them by leading them as captives in His victory procession’³².

God used the blood of His Son, Jesus, to cross out your criminal record from the past which was a witness against you. Just as in the legal world the accused must be acquitted immediately when there is no evidence, in the same way God has acquitted you of the charge from the evil one, in Christ. That is the freedom which Jesus paid for with His own life! Through the wonder of the Cross Jesus has completely freed you from every accusation, so that you can stand before God, free of all guilt.
